Fireman’s Brand SPILLCLEAN^® pH Neutral Roadspill Cleanup Detergent

When the City of Milwaukee Fire Department came to us in 2003 asking for a pH neutral roadspill cleanup detergent, we invented one. How? We dissected the problem. Then we determine the City’s pain point of leaving slippery motor oil on roads after an accident. And we went to work.

Our chief chemist created a product we came to proudly call Fireman’s Brand SPILLCLEAN^®. When mixed with any petroleum spill like motor oil, gasoline, brake fluid, transmission fluid, antifreeze, our Fireman’s Brand SPILLCLEAN^® will completely separate it from the hard surface it occupies. The resulting emulsification process allows our detergent to surround each (oil) molecule, thus LIFTING it from the road. Then when this contaminant is hosed off with water, or wet vacuumed up, or shoveled up (when combined with our Fireman’s Brand Oil B-Dry^®), there is NO oil left behind. Why is this important? Because the City of Milwaukee did not want any slippery oil slick left behind on the road every time an accident occurred on city roads!

We are proud to report that this Fireman’s Brand SPILLCLEAN^® pH Neutral Roadspill Cleanup Detergent has been continuously registered with the United States Environmental Protection Agency as a “Surface Washing Agent” since 2009. And the only way a Surface Washing Agent is accepted on to the EPA website is to have it pass a highly rigorous set of tests performed by an EPA approved independent laboratory. This laboratory test for toxicity towards animal life around both fresh and saltwater conditions. Additionally, this regulated laboratory tests for efficacy in removing crude oil from hard surfaces.

In July 2025, Fireman’s Brand SPILLCLEAN^® pH Neutral Roadspill Cleanup Detergent successfully met the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) latest and most rigorous regulatory requirements and was re-admitted to the EPA’s National Contingency Plan (NCP) Product Schedule heading into 2026.

As of 2026, SPILLCLEAN^® stands as the only surface washing agent currently listed on the EPA’s NCP Product Schedule under these updated standards, reinforcing its position as the industry leader in safety, compliance, and performance.

This achievement is especially significant given the EPA’s updated standards introduced in 2023. While 103 products were previously listed, Fireman’s Brand SPILLCLEAN^® is now the only product to successfully meet all of the new requirements and maintain its listing.

To accomplish this, Super Sat Ventures, Inc. completed an intensive eleven-month process involving extensive third-party validation and documentation, including independent laboratory testing and certification, comprehensive data collection on product shelf life, detailed emergency response procedures and work instructions, full ingredient verification, and confirmation that no “sinking agents” are used in the formulation. Additional measures included updated product labeling, safety data sheets, EPA-required disclaimers, and official company certifications demonstrating good standing, including certification from the State of Wisconsin.

In addition to meeting these rigorous EPA standards, Fireman’s Brand SPILLCLEAN^® has demonstrated proven performance in independent government research. In 2021, the U.S. Department of the Interior completed a comprehensive three-year study evaluating the effectiveness of EPA-listed surface washing agents in removing crude oil from hard surfaces. SPILLCLEAN^® ranked in the top two products for removing crude oil from cement and brick, and in the top six for wood and sandstone.
